Job TitleSenior BI Developer – Cognos & Power BI (Contract-to-Hire)Position OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Business Intelligence Developer with strong hands-on expertise in IBM Cognos and Microsoft Power BI for an immediate contract-to-hire opportunity. This role requires a highly independent, well-rounded BI professional who can work directly with business stakeholders, translate requirements into technical solutions, and collaborate effectively with technical teams.The ideal candidate is not only technically strong, but also a confident communicator who can partner with business users without the need for additional management oversight.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, and maintain BI solutions using IBM Cognos and Microsoft Power BIBuild and support ETL processes, data models, and reporting datasetsWrite and optimize SQL queries to support reporting and analytics needsPartner directly with business stakeholders to gather requirements, clarify expectations, and validate resultsTranslate business needs into technical specifications and actionable BI solutionsSupport testing, validation, and interpretation of results, including explaining findings to non-technical audiencesCollaborate with technical team members (data engineers, developers, analysts) on shared initiativesWork independently when needed, owning deliverables from requirements through deploymentProvide ongoing support, enhancements, and troubleshooting for BI reports and dashboardsRequired QualificationsStrong hands-on experience with IBM Cognos (reporting, modeling, or administration)Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Power BI (reports, dashboards, datasets)Solid understanding of ETL concepts and data integrationAdvanced SQL skills (writing, tuning, and troubleshooting queries)Proven ability to work directly with business partners without heavy oversightExcellent verbal and written communication skillsAbility to work effectively:IndependentlyWith technical teamsWith non-technical business usersExperience interpreting and validating test results with stakeholdersPreferred / Nice-to-Have SkillsExperience supporting or modernizing legacy BI platformsFamiliarity with data warehousing conceptsExperience working in hybrid technical/business-facing role
