Position Summary
The Student Assistant - CSS plays a vital role in the Center for Student Success (CSS), serving students, faculty, and staff who seek to utilize CSS resources. This position involves assisting with the preparation and execution of Summer Orientation and other CSS events. Additionally, the Student Assistant will offer administrative support to the CSS Team, fellow students, and professional staff. Key responsibilities encompass performing general duties and clerical tasks.
Education/Experience
Currently enrolled Stevenson University student in good standing with the University academically and judicially with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher (undergraduate) or 3.0 or higher (graduate). Office experience (answering the telephone, using the photocopier, scheduling/canceling appointments, etc.) preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Ability
• Working knowledge of the structure and function of the Center for Student Success.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Database management and other computer skills.
• Self-motivated, flexible, and possessing a strong work ethic.
• Commitment to integrity, excellence, learning, and community.
• Ability to interact professionally with others via face-to-face, email, and on the phone.
• Excellent written and verbal skills.
• Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately.
• Detail-oriented and strong attention to detail skills.
• Highly organized and able to assist with compiling all Summer Orientation materials.
• Ability to multitask and manage multiple priorities.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
• Ability to uphold FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) regulations and confidentiality regarding student information.
• Ability to be flexible and adjust to changing factors and/or environments.
Physical Requirements
Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Including the following physical activities: stationary position, occasionally moving about inside the office to access supplies and office machinery, operating a computer, calculator, printer, and whiteboard, communicating and exchanging accurate information and ideas so others will understand, observe, and inspect details at close range. Working conditions are primarily inside.
Essential Functions
• Assist with the Summer Orientation events, including checking students in and out, arranging student ID photos, assisting with course registration tasks, and other assistance as needed.
• Serve as lead for preparing materials for Summer Orientation, including preparing student documents needed for course registration and organizing student giveaways and handouts.
• Assisting with onboarding new students to Stevenson University.
• Assist students, staff, faculty, and visitors by answering questions and providing general information.
• Assist with communication for new students and their families face-to-face, and via email and phone.
• Assisting with outreach to new students.
• Work on special projects and events as needed.
• Complete tasks assigned by the supervisor and/or designee.
• Perform general clerical and office support functions.
• Assist with keeping the CSS spaces clean and orderly.
• Provide administrative assistance to the Leadership Team as needed.
• Prepare materials or mailings for the department.
