About the Role
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Auxis is seeking a Senior Database Administrator responsible for the design, administration, optimization, and operational support of enterprise database environments primarily hosted in AWS. The role focuses on ensuring high availability, performance, security, and reliability of Amazon Redshift and MySQL databases while collaborating with various teams to support data platforms and improve cloud data architecture.
Responsibilities
• Administer, monitor, and maintain Amazon Redshift clusters and MySQL databases in AWS environments
• Ensure database availability, performance, scalability, and reliability across production and non-production environments
• Perform database installation, configuration, upgrades, patching, and migrations
• Implement and manage backup, restore, and disaster recovery strategies
• Monitor database health and performance and proactively address potential issues
• Analyze and optimize database performance, queries, and indexing strategies
• Identify and resolve database bottlenecks and resource contention issues
• Implement performance tuning strategies for large-scale data warehouse workloads in Redshift
• Manage and optimize databases deployed in AWS environments, including: Amazon Redshift, Amazon RDS, EC2-hosted databases
• Work with AWS services such as CloudWatch, IAM, S3, and AWS Backup to support database operations
• Support data lifecycle management and storage optimization strategies
• Implement database security best practices, including encryption, access controls, and auditing
• Manage database user access, roles, and privileges
• Support compliance requirements, such as SOC 2, PCI, HIPAA, and internal security policies, where applicable
• Work with DevOps teams to implement automation for database deployments, patching, and monitoring
• Support Infrastructure as Code (IaC) initiatives using tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation where applicable
• Assist in CI/CD pipelines for database changes and schema deployments
• Provide L2/L3 database support for production incidents
• Perform root cause analysis and implement preventive measures
• Participate in on-call rotation for critical database systems if required
• Maintain documentation of database configurations, procedures, and architecture
• Produce operational and performance reports as required
• Contribute to operational runbooks and knowledge base documentation
Skills
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• 7+ years of experience in database administration
• Strong experience with: Amazon Redshift, MySQL
• Hands-on experience managing databases in AWS cloud environments
• Experience with database performance tuning and query optimization
• Strong understanding of: Data warehousing concepts, High availability and disaster recovery, Backup and recovery strategies
• Experience with monitoring and troubleshooting database environments
• Experience with Snowflake Data Cloud platform
• Experience with database automation and scripting (Python, Bash, etc.)
• Knowledge of data governance and security frameworks
