Overview
This role overlaps heavily with the Senior DBA search, but the defining difference is the Mandarin requirement and the international technical-transfer component. The team needs someone who can work with Mandarin-speaking counterparts and handle technical transfer in Chinese, which has been one of the biggest blockers in the search.
Because of that language requirement, the team is more flexible on technical completeness for this role than they are for the non-bilingual Senior DBA role. They know it is difficult to find someone who has both deep production database skills and true Mandarin fluency, so they may compromise somewhat on technical depth if the person is credible operationally and can handle the language component.
What the Client Wants
• A hands-on DBA who can work in production environments
• Someone who can speak and read Mandarin, not just casually but in a technical setting
• Candidate must be able to participate in Mandarin-language technical transfer
• Cantonese is not enough
• They want strong MySQL and Redis exposure, but may bend somewhat on overall technical completeness versus the non-bilingual Senior DBA search
• Someone who can partner across teams and function as a bridge between technical groups
• Ideal candidate understands regulated data environments and can work with cyber and compliance teams
• Strong communication is still important, especially because this role involves coordination across regions
• Travel flexibility is important due to the China transfer requirement
